Cuauhtemoc Blanco‘s fans think he is one of the greatest soccer players ever. Opponents rank him among the most frustrating and annoying humans to ever walk the face of the earth.
Love him, or hate him, the Mexican hero’s latest antics will surely make you chuckle.
The Mexican League fined the Dorados Sinaloa playmaker £1,500 ($2,400) for impersonating a referee during a second division game against Toros Neza. The 39-year-old wasn’t calling fouls, waving imaginary cards around or anything like that. He was literally impersonating the referee.
It’s safe to say referee Jorge Tonix has a unique face. He’s got a big chin and his mouth starts pretty high up his head (relative to everyone else).
Blanco was kicked by an opponent in the second half, but Tonix didn’t call a foul. He stayed down for a few moments, and Teza kicked the ball out of bounds so the veteran star could receive treatment.
But instead of waiting for the stretcher, Blanco hopped up, scrunched his face to look like that of Tonix, and got in the face of the referee. Blanco didn’t say anything to Tonix. He just shadowed him for a few seconds … and those watching thought it was hillarious.
Unfortunately, the Liga MX didn’t think it was that funny.
“He was fined £1,500 for his cruel impression, which the authorities called a ‘sustained gurning gesture’ and ‘bullying,'” the Mail reports.
Blanco, Mexico’s second all-time leading scorer, is used to getting his way on the field. It’s clear that when he doesn’t, he’s not above resorting to the ways of the Internet: trolling. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
