The Patriots' secondary has enough on their plate this Sunday going up against Peyton Manning, but they could stack up well against the physical Denver wide receivers.
Devin McCourty spoke to the media on Wednesday about how the Patriots' defense is preparing for Manning and the fast-paced Denver offense. The third-year cornerback said that playing against a quarterback like Tom Brady everyday is great practice, because you aren't able to fool smart players with defensive coverages.
McCourty also said that he and the rest of the New England secondary will need to play the Denver wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker physical underneath and they'll need to challenge them deep. Thomas is a great deep threat, so it may be wise for the Patriots' cornerbacks to have some help over the top from their safeties. Starting free safety Steve Gregory was held out of practice on Wednesday with a hip injury, so we could see rookie Tavon Wilson starting in his place.
