The Patriots’ defensive woes have been well-documented, particularly when it comes to the secondary. Much of the struggles in that unit stem from the team’s inability to develop cornerbacks and safeties adequately enough.

In recent years, the Pats have placed an emphasis on using high draft picks on defensive backs, but few have panned out, leaving New England in its current situation. Much like last season, the Patriots’ offense has been called upon to shoulder the load, and in some cases, it hasn’t been able to do just that.

For many football fans, these problems are not only enough to raise a red flag, but enough to write off the Pats as Super Bowl contenders. The Boston Globe’s Greg Bedard isn’t willing to go that far, though.
