Bobby Carpenter Released by Patriots While Myron Pryor, Visanthe Schiancoe Could Be ActivatedThe Patriots have freed up some room on their roster.

Linebacker Bobby Carpenter was released by the Patriots on Monday. He had been re-signed by the team on Oct. 2 after being cut before the start of the regular season. The veteran linebacker was signed as insurance when linebackers Dont'a Hightower and Tracy White had gone down with injury.

Carptenter was mostly used on special teams during his short tenure with the team. He played six total snaps on defense, with three a piece coming in Weeks 6 and 8 against the Seahawks and Rams.

Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe is eligible to come off the short-term injured reserve next week and defensive tackle Myron Pryor is eligible to come off the physically-unable-to-perform list at any time. The Carpenter move could mean either of those players being activated to the 53-man roster.
