Report: San Francisco 49ers Bidding to Host Super Bowl at New Stadium in 2016 or 2017The San Francisco 49ers are always doing their best to play in the Super Bowl. In the next few years, though, the team is looking into hosting it, too.

The Niners are reportedly bidding to host the Super Bowl in either 2016 or 2017, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, at their new stadium that is being built in Santa Clara.

The league is expected to announce on Monday the cities under consideration for Super Bowls L and LI, and the 49ers are hoping that they make the cut. While the new stadium is located about 40 miles outside of San Fran, however, the team would still expect San Francisco to be the host city for the week's events.

"San Francisco is our home," 49ers CEO Jed York told the Chronicle. "If and when we win a Super Bowl, the parade will be on Market
Street."

The Santa Clara facility is slated to open in 2014, the same year that the Super Bowl will be in an open-air stadium in a cold-weather city for the first time, Giants Stadium. While San Francisco isn't exactly known for snowfall, it would certainly be chilly in NoCal that time of year.
