Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara is about to become the latest NHL superstar to pack up his gear and head overseas to get some ice time during the lockout.
USA Today reports that Chara has agreed to play in the KHL during the lockout. His agent, Matt Keator, told the paper that the B’s captain opted for Lev Praha (Prague Lions).
“He has friends there, and it’s within hours of his home in Slovakia and it’s a great hockey city,” Keator told USA Today.
It’s a return of some sorts for Chara, who played junior hockey in Prague.
Chara joins the likes of fellow teammates David Krejci, Tyler Seguin, Andrew Ference, Tuukka Rask and Anton Khudobin as members of the Black and Gold committed to or already in Europe during the latest NHL work stoppage.
Alex Ovechkin and Ilya Bryzgalov are among other NHL stars already committed to playing in the KHL, a league that will have its games broadcasted in America on ESPN3.
