It’s hard to believe we’re already into November, the clocks have been turned back, the weather is getting colder in the New England area and we’re more than halfway through another NFL regular season. But that’s exactly the case, and before you know it, we’ll be feasting on playoff pigskin action.

There’s still a lot that can — and certainly will — happen between now and the postseason, but some interesting revelations came to light in Week 9. Assistant editor Ricky Doyle and NFL writer Luke Hughes were chomping at the bit to discuss the action in the latest NESN.com podcast.

Suddenly, the Colts have a realistic chance of making the playoffs. With impressive quarterback play by Andrew Luck, continued inspiration from coach Chuck Pagano and a relatively weak AFC, Indianapolis continues to turn heads, and perhaps everyone should stand up and take notice.

Over in the NFC, it’s also time to start recognizing the special season that the Falcons are in the midst of. Sure, Atlanta’s victories haven’t always been pretty, but a win is a win, and Mike Smith‘s bunch has done a masterful job of grinding out W’s.

With Week 9 in the books, Doyle and Hughes also decided now is as good a time as any to hand out some midseason hardware. And while Matt Ryan and Peyton Manning remain the sexy MVP picks right now, Hughes can’t look past what Aaron Rodgers has done to turn the Packers’ season around.
