If Aaron Rodgers‘ teammates are giving him a compliment or two just to ensure he has a good game, they must be giving him a lot of praise.
CBS’ 60 Minutes ran a feature on Rodgers on Sunday night and he and his teammates had some interesting things to say about his psyche. Both Greg Jennings and Clay Matthews called the star quarterback sensitive and Jennings even said they’ve got to be careful about what to say about him. Matthews said he has to give him a compliment every once in a while to pick up his game.
“I’ll compliment him on the clothes he wears. Just make him feel good. And consequently he’ll go out, feel good, play good, make us feel good,” said Matthews. “So, we just, you know, give him a pat on the back every once in a while.”
Rodgers took some offense when a fan told him he thought he’d be a lot taller — Rodgers is 6-foot-2. When asked if he was sensitive about his height, Rodgers didn’t completely deny it.
“No. I’m only sensitive when people tell me that I’m a lot smaller in person than they thought I would be,” said Rodgers.
Rodgers may be sensitive, but he’s also one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Rodgers was ignored by Division I schools coming out of high school, and then dropped all the way to the No. 24 overall pick in the 2005 draft. If he’s using that sensitivity to fuel him, it’s working.
