Nowadays Brooklyn (particularly the Park Slope neighborhood in which the Barclays Center resides) is more closely associated with indie music and hipsters than hip hop, but it’s still a community indebted to the rap community. So, leave it to the Brooklyn Nets to venerate Dr. Dre.
Dre’s 1992 solo debut, entitled The Chronic, is one of hip hop’s all-time great records and gold standards. It’s also noted to be fairly vulgar and generally NSFW, so you’ll just have to trust us when we say the Nets are paying homage to a lyrical phrase with their new NBA-licensed apparel.
The phrase appearing on the hats and shirts is “Deez Nets,” and it’s a reference to track No. 6 on the original version of the album. Go check that out for yourself (having been forewarned) and check out pictures of the Nets’ new merchandise in the pictures below.
