Erik Cole, NHL Players Wearing ‘Puck Gary’ Hats, Taking Dig at Gary Bettman (Photo)

The NHL lockout isn’t quite past the point of no return, but it became more than insufferable a long time ago. The players and owners continue trading places as the dinks, and it’s Erik Cole and members of the Montreal Canadiens who is now wearing the “dink” hat.

Well, actually, he’s wearing a different kind of hat, but is no less of a dink.

TVA Sports (via LFPress.com) points out that the Cole and other players have begun wearing baseball caps that read “Puck Gary,” a not-so-subtle message to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and the NHL owners. The hat also features the phrase “2012-13 NHL Lockout,” ensuring collectors never forget where the horrible pun came from.

According to TVA Sports, the hats are not officially endorsed by the NHLPA, and Cole says the hats “might be available to the public, all proceeds go to charity.” So at least this latest act of petulance may actually do some good after all.

In terms of getting a new deal done, it’s unlikely it will do anything than make the players look a little more childish. Cole joins the likes of Red Wings defenseman Ian White (called Bettman an idiot) and Panthers forward Kris Versteeg (thinks Bettman and Bill Daly are cancers polluting the game) as players who have taken public shots at the commissioner.

All the while, still no hockey.
