The Eagles have officially started to pack it in after starting the 2012 season with a pitiful 3-8 record.

The team announced on Tuesday they have released two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Babin. Babin was a first-team All-Pro in 2011 and was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2010 and 2011. He recorded 12 1/2 sacks for the Titans in 2010 and was rewarded with a five-year, $27.725 million contract with the Eagles. The deal paid off immediately as he had 18 sacks in 2011. Babin started off slow in 2012 with 5 1/2 sacks.

Since it’s after the trade deadline, Babin will have to go through the waiver process before being signed by another NFL team. He’s due another $1.64 million this season if another team picks him up on waivers, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com. Babin’s contract has him making $4.225 million in 2013 and $6 million in 2014 and 2015.

Babin was the No. 27 overall pick by the Texans in 2004 and toiled around the league before finally breaking out with Tennessee in 2010.
