Jerod Mayo Refuses to Pay Attention to Pro Bowl Voting, Would Rather Play Xbox Instead

FOXBORO, Mass. — With temperatures in New England creeping down into the 20’s as winter slowly begins to settle in, a trip to warm and sunny Hawaii would be a welcome change for some. But not for Jerod Mayo, at least not yet.

Mayo, who is arguably in the middle of his best season as a pro, is currently atop the Pro Bowl voting for AFC middle linebackers and will likely be named to his second Pro Bowl come February. But the Patriots’ all-star linebacker said on Thursday that he doesn’t even keep up with voting or where his name might fall on that list.

“I haven’t seen the All-Star voting,” an energized Mayo shouted with a few laughs.  “You know what, I really don’t even watch TV like that.”

Television or not, Mayo should know that his performance on the field is at least warranting some Pro Bowl consideration. He currently leads the NFL with 112 tackles on the season, and three forced fumbles — along with a pair of sacks and an interception to help round out the old resume.

Still, Mayo won’t acknowledge keeping up with his place among his colleagues at the position. He’d rather spend his time playing video games anyhow.

“I’m on the Xbox. If I get some time I’ll be on the Xbox or the PlayStation 3. But I really don’t even watch,” Mayo added.

When asked where he might think his name would fall, though, Mayo continued his defiance, playfully yelling “I don’t want to know. Don’t even tell me.” He even added a “you might jinx me,” for good measure, indicating that while he may not keep up with the polling he would at least like the recognition.

So, a nice vacation to sunny Hawaii may not be on the mind right now, but then again the Patriots’ have the 80-degree heat in Miami to look forward to this weekend. So maybe Mayo will change his tune once the snow starts falling down at Gillette.
