Just about everyone watching the Lions-Texans game at Ford Field or from their couch Thursday afternoon could see that Justin Forsett had various body parts hitting the ground before he bounced back up and outran the Detroit defense for an 81-yard touchdown score.
So, if the officials had reviewed the play, they likely would have seen it, too.
But here’s the catch: Forsett was never whistled down, and although all scoring plays are supposed to be reviewed, per a new NFL rule, they won’t be if a challenge flag is thrown first.
But Lions coach Jim Schwartz threw his flag, and his Lions had to eat an 81-yard touchdown that shouldn’t have been. Schwartz could be seen saying “That’s on me” after the mistake.
The play proved to be pivotal, as the Texans chipped back from a 10-point deficit to tie the game as momentum swung their way.
