The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without their best player for the next month.
Kyrie Irving tried to play through an injury to his left index finger, but the diagnosis of a hairline fracture will now keep the point guard out for four weeks.
Irving is far and away the best player on the Cavs’ 2-8 squad. He’s averaging 22.9 points per game, 5.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds. He was shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Irving suffered the injury Saturday against the Mavericks. He tried to play Sunday but struggled, shooting 4-for-14 and 0-2 from 3-point range. He had nine points, four rebounds and four assists.
There’s no word if the injury will keep Irving from shooting more of his brilliant “Uncle Drew” videos, although we doubt he’ll be doing any “cinematic dunks” with his finger in a splint.
