In a game where scoring is at a premium, it probably wasn't wise to call a play destined for failure while leaving three points on the field.
With LSU down 7-3 and facing fourth-and-12 at Alabama's 30-yard line, Tigers coach Les Miles called a fake field goal, and Alabama read it perfectly. The Crimson Tide stopped the play for a two-yard loss. LSU wouldn't score for the rest of the half, while Alabama scored another touchdown with seconds left in the second quarter to go ahead 14-3.
The Crimson Tide hasn't allowed a touchdown to the Tigers since 2010, when current Patriots running back Stevan Ridley scored from one yard out. The two teams have played 10 quarters of football since that score.
