Mike D’Antoni Grants First Interview as Lakers Coach to Ryan Seacrest (Audio)

From his days as a small-time gameshow and radio host to American Idol, Ryan Seacrest has seen it all in the world of entertainment.

However, despite Seacrest’s prolific career in Los Angeles, sports was probably one area that he hadn’t engaged in so much. That makes it all the more surprising that new Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni‘s first interview with an L.A. outlet was with Seacrest and KIIS-FM.

For the record, Seacrest seems to handle the interview pretty well. Even if he’s not capable of asking a complicated question about Steve Nash‘s role in the offense and playing off the ball, most of his queries were sufficiently better than his opening gambit of “Did you do anything over the weekend?”

Among the points touched on during the interview were the pressure that D’Antoni feels, his recent knee replacement surgery and knowing Kobe Bryant as a 12-year-old — credit Seacrest for asking that question.

This is the Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton with Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler on Monday. Suffice to say Stanton wouldn’t be in such a dapper mood 24 hours later.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT

“I’m going to do everything I can do to win a championship. If we’re not at least in the hunt, a serious hunt, then I’ve failed as a head coach. I’m comfortable with that.”

TWEET OF THE NIGHT

One thing we can all agree on: Jeffrey Loria is undoubtedly a villain.

VIDEO OF THE NIGHT

We know Rasheed Wallace has been out of the game a while, but does he really need to resort to begging to get a new sponsor? Or does he just really want free insurance?
