It’s often said that the most popular player on a football team is the backup quarterback. This Sunday, however, that guy might end up being the starter.

After a rash of injuries to some of the NFL’s best and brightest signal callers, many unfamiliar or unusual faces might find themselves under center for a handful of teams around the NFL. With Michael Vick, Ben Roethlisberger and Jay Cutler among the more high-profile names who could miss time, many football fans will be introduced to the likes of Nick Foles and Colin Kaepernick, or re-introduced to Byron Leftwich and Jason Campbell.

Of course, plenty of teams around the league would probably like to see their perfectly healthy starter benched in favor of a backup, too. With the season past its midway point and the playoff picture quickly shaping up, coaches might be bold enough to pull the trigger on a personnel move in the hopes of sparking their teams on a hot streak.
