Los Angeles has reportedly approached free agent outfielder Torii Hunter with a two-year deal, according to Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com.
Although the Dodgers are quite set in their outfield — they have among the best in Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp — acquiring Hunter would give the team a veteran presence and some backup if Crawford’s Tommy John recovery stretches into the beginning of next season. The Dodgers have also been in the middle of trade rumors with Ethier, who the team could still unload.
Hunter has gotten the most attention among outfielders on the free agent market this offseason, with the Yankees reportedly giving him an offer and the Red Sox also interested.
The 37-year-old has nine Gold Gloves and was superb last season, collecting 16 home runs and 92 RBIs with a .313 average.
