Report: Jon Lester Is Not Part of Any Trade Talks Between Red Sox, Royals

A little speculation sure can fire up the hot stove.

Kansas City Star reporter Bob Dutton wrote a story this week that suggested that Boston was ready to flip Jon Lester to the Royals in exchange for prized prospect Wil Myers, but a source with the Red Sox has now denied any negotiations for such a deal, according to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com.

“There’s nothing going on,” the source said, according to Edes.

While the Red Sox are said to be open to virtually any trade, giving up Lester — considered the team’s ace and at least a key part of the rotation — while the team struggles to fill pitching holes did seem to be a stretch, for as good as Myers has been.
