The Red Sox are looking at a familiar face to add some depth to their outfield.
The Red Sox are one of the teams “in contact” with Jason Bay, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. Bay played for the Red Sox from 2008 to 2009. He batted .274 during that time with 45 home runs and 156 RBIs in 200 games.
Bay played for the Mets the last three seasons. He’s struggled since leaving Boston, hitting .234 with 26 home runs and 124 RBIs in 288 games.
The Red Sox acquired Bay as part of the three-team deal that sent Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers in 2008. Boston also sent Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen to the Pirates as part of the trade.
The Red Sox currently have five outfielders on their 40-man roster: Jacoby Ellsbury, Ryan Kalish, Daniel Nava, Jerry Sands and Ryan Sweeney.
