Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington isn’t afraid to admit the team’s interest in Josh Hamilton, going on XM Radio on Tuesday and saying that the team still has interest in the free-agent outfielder. The host of the show, former MLB general manager Jim Bowden, tweeted this on Tuesday afternoon during the interview with the Boston GM.

Hamilton is the consensus choice as the best position player on the market this offseason. Hamilton is said to be looking for a huge contract, and the Red Sox do have the money to spend after dumping a ton of salary in their August trade with the Dodgers.
According to reports, the Red Sox are pretty antsy to do something substantial this winter after finishing last in last place in the AL East this season with an embarrassing 69-93 record.
“Boston wants to do something big and it wouldn’t shock me if [the Red Sox] became players for Josh Hamilton,” a competing general manager reportedly told CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman last week.
Some think that Hamilton could be looking for a contract that’s as big as seven years and $175 million.
