Since their controversial Monday Night Football loss to the Seahawks in Week 3, the Green Bay Packers have been on a tear.
Aaron Rodgers has led the Packers to a 7-2 record in the last nine games and has the Packers back atop the NFC North at 8-4 on the season. But even with the terrific turnaround, Rodgers and his teammates still can’t get over the memorable “Fail Mary” pass.
“How can you not?” Rodgers said during an interview on ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning on Wednesday. “We’re all human here. That was obviously a difficult moment for us.”
At the time, the thought was that the controversial call could impact the Packers’ chances at a playoff berth. With their improved play, that notion seems to be disappearing into thin air. Just because they’ve moved past it, though, doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten about it.
“We’re hoping that we’ve put yourself in a position right now where that’s not going to have an effect on things. We’re not going to use that as an excuse,” Rodgers added. ” We have four games left and everything is right in front of us, with a chance to win out, and not only be division champions [but] also a potential first-round bye. But in some of those quiet moments, of course, you can’t help but think about it.”
That loss still could have an impact, as it could affect the Packers’ prospective seed in the playoffs or cost them that bye Rodgers mentioned.
On the bright side, though, even with all the bad associated with the call, at least it was able to bring the real referees back to field. That’s almost consolation enough.
