The Chicago Bears are a complete mess right now, and they’re not making life away from the football field any easier for themselves.
Wide receiver Brandon Marshall ran his mouth leading up to the Bears-Packers game on Sunday, a contest in which the Packers won, clinching the NFC North in the process. After the game, Marshall cried at the podium during his postgame news conference.
Marshall wasn’t alone in yapping leading up to Sunday, either. Linebacker Brian Urlacher — who hasn’t played since Dec. 2 — got into a little war of words with Packers tight end Jermichael Finley.
Finley and the Packers got the last laugh Sunday, and Urlacher’s frustrations have boiled over. The All-Pro is fed up with hearing criticism from the media and booing from the fans — despite the fact that the Bears have lost three in a row and are now in danger of missing the playoffs.
“Two of the people I don’t care about: fans or media,” Urlacher told WLFD-Ch. 32, according to the Chicago Tribune. “They can say what they want to about our head coach, about our players. … It doesn’t bother me. They don’t know what they’re talking about, obviously.”
Urlacher specifically addressed the media’s criticism of head coach Lovie Smith, who has come under fire recently.
“I know there are a lot of experts in the media, a bunch of smart guys out there who know exactly what they’re talking about all the time. They don’t know what they’re talking about. Lovie is the head coach of this football team and hopefully will be for a long time.”
The linebacker wasn’t done with the fans, though. He specifically addressed the boos that rained down on the Bears on Sunday, as the crowd voiced its displeasure with yet another loss to the Packers.
“Our crowd was pretty good today for the most part,” he said, according to the paper. “They were loud for a minute there, the boos were really loud, which is always nice. The only team in our division that gets booed at home is us. It’s incredible to me.”
Of course, no other team in the NFC North has lost five of their last six. Aside from the Lions, of course, whose fans are probably so apathetic at this point that they probably don’t even realize Detroit has lost six in a row.
