BravesMajor League Baseball teams are updating their batting practice hats in advance of the 2013 season, and some of them are pretty cool. One of them, however, is getting buzz for all the wrong reasons.

According to ESPN’s Uni Watch, the Atlanta Braves are bringing back the “screaming Indian” logo used by the team in the past, touching off the firestorm of debate that will often accompany usage of Native American imagery in logos.

The Braves appeared to be following the trend in past years to move away from images associated with a not-so-proud period in United States history — notably eliminating the “screaming Indian” from their alternate throwback jerseys last year — but in this instance appear to have reconsidered.

The controversial “yelling brave” logo has been around since 1957 and first appeared on the team’s jerseys in 1966 before its removal in 1971.
