Don Sweeney, Tom McVie to Serve as Honorary Captains for 2013 AHL All-Star Classic Airing on NESN

Don SweeneyDon Sweeney and Tom McVie will be on hand for theĀ  2013 Dunkin’ Donuts AHL All-Star Classic this season, as the two were named honorary captains for the event. The Classic will feature the top AHL talent from the 2012-13 season, and is taking place this year in Providence, R.I.

Each year, the captains join the festivities on the benches and in the locker room, and are also recognized at the AHL Hall of Fame Inductions and Awards Ceremony.

The 2013 AHL All-Star Skills Competition will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, while the All-Star Game itself will drop the puck at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28. Both events will air on NESN.

The Bruins drafted Sweeney in 1984, and watched as he went on to an All-American college career at Harvard University. After two seasons with the AHL’s Maine Mariners, Sweeney would go on to play over 1,000 games with the Bruins. He has been the Bruins’ assistant general manager since 2010.

McVie is spending his 19th year with the Bruins organization, in the midst of a coaching career that has spanned several decades. The longtime coach is 11th all-time in the AHL with 329 career victories.
