Gerard Pique Blasts Jose Mourinho, Says Real Madrid Manager Criticizes Lionel Messi Because He Never Played

Gerard PiqueBarcelona defender Gerard Piqué has replied to Jose Mourinho’s comments from last week when he said that “some [players] leave on a stretcher and two days later they are already playing,” which was a clear shot at Lionel Messi, who left Barcelona’s game against Benfica on a stretcher after getting injured.

Piqué did not like the Portuguese coach’s words, and he made a comment during an appearance for Barcelona’s television channel Barça TV.

“I did not like at all what he said,” Piqué said. “It bothers me that in Madrid they doubt [Messi’s] professionalism.

“Mourinho messes with Messi because he has never been a player and he doesn’t understand them,” he added.

The 25-year old center back has been outspoken when referring to Mourinho, criticizing him several times in the past couple years, mostly to reply to any incident or comment the “Special One” previously made.

“Mourinho is destroying our game,” said Piqué after Mourinho poked the eye of then assistant coach Tito Vilanova in 2011. This year in October, he reignited the war of words again during an interview with Catalunya Radio.

“The tension that there was between us and Real Madrid last year has passed,” Piqué said. “Mourinho has realized that there is no need to look at Barcelona because you will not find any problems. Additionally, now it seems that he is looking for them in his own house.”
