The NHL lockout is dragging on, and it appears that the players’ union is approaching a crossroads.
The NHLPA’s executive board is reportedly mulling over a decision over whether or not to disclaim interest, which would effectively dissolve the union and allow the players to sue the league’s owners. So, the board decided on Thursday night to put that decision to the rest of the players, in a way.
According to TSN’s Aaron Ward, the union’s members will vote to authorize the PA’s executive board to consider that as an option.
It’s all a bit confusing, and even if the union votes to empower its executive board, there’s no guarantee the board will move to disclaim interest. However, if the players do pursue that route, the union would effectively dissolve, allowing individual players to pursue an anti-trust lawsuit against the NHL.
