Kevin YoukilisRed Sox fans might not want to hear it, but the possibility of Kevin Youkilis playing in pinstripes next season is a real one.

The Yankees have made a one-year, $12 million offer to Youkilis, according to MLB.com, as the pressure appears to be mounting for New York to shore up its infield in preparation for 2013.

With Alex Rodriguez missing up to six months after undergoing hip surgery, New York will need a third baseman. Since Eric Chavez and Jeff Keppinger are already off the market, that leaves Youk as one of the few big names remaining on the free-agent market.

Youkilis hit .235 last season for the Red Sox and White Sox, and will turn 34 next spring.
