Ugueth Urbina is a free man. Or so it seems.
The former big league closer recently posed for a photo alongside his son, Juan, which was then posted on Twitter. It’s the first we’ve heard of Urbina in quite some time, as he was sent to prison in 2007 after being convicted of attempted murder.
Urbina, who bounced around throughout his career, was arrested by Venezuelan police in 2005 after he allegedly attacked five farm workers on his property. The two-time All-Star used a machete in the attack, and also attempted to pour gasoline on the workers.
Urbina, who denied his involvement in the attack, was sentenced to 14 years, but apparently he’s now out and about. In the meantime, Juan Urbina has been busy carving out a baseball career of his own. The 19-year-old is currently a pitcher in the Mets organization.
Uggie led the National League in saves as a member of the Expos in 1999. He also saved 40 games as a member of the Red Sox in 2002, the same season he was selected to his second All-Star Game.
Have a looksie at the photo below to see Urbina’s pearly whites. It remains to be seen whether he can still bring the heat.
