Gary Bettman, Bill DalyWill there be a hockey season this year?

That’s the question on the forefront of many fans’ minds around this time, as the owners and players continue their back-and-forth negotiations.

With news of the NHL’s latest proposal to the union leaking on Thursday, a new round of optimism swept through the nation as fans waited with bated breath. Or did it? After so many starts and stops to the bargaining process, you’d be hard-pressed to find many fans who haven’t been disillusioned to some extent by the actions of those involved in it all.

While Gary Bettman is likely to have most of the scorn from fans directed his way, the owners, Donald Fehr and the players are sure to feel the heat from the masses as well.

Regardless of who’s to blame, there still is hope that the league’s latest offer to the players will be able to spur talks toward a conclusion and usher in another — albeit shortened — NHL season.
