ZipsCollege basketball has seen some interesting jerseys over the last few months.

Baylor rocked Mountain Dew-inspired uniforms for March Madness. Maryland wore Under Armour jerseys to honor the Brooklyn Dodgers to start this season and recently, teams like Gonzaga and Michigan State have donned jerseys with only the logo and number on the front, with the team name appearing on the back.

But Akron almost had them all beat. Monday, it was announced that Akron would wear jerseys with the team’s Twitter handle on the back. Like Gonzaga and Michigan State, the Zips were slated to wear similar Nike uniforms, but instead of the team name on the back, Akron planned on putting @ZipsMBB in an effort to promote the school’s Social Media Night against Ohio on Saturday.

This idea has since been put to a halt by the NCAA.

Give credit to Akron for trying to promote their Twitter account and generating some buzz around their program. Besides, is having their Twitter handle on the back taking anything away from these new Nike uniforms that look more like practice jerseys?
