Andrew McCutchenIn what has otherwise been a pretty depressing baseball existence for Pirates star Andrew McCutchen, the center fielder has found one more place to rise above his peers, even if he can’t carry his team with him.

McCutchen beat out a handful of big-name All-Stars to be featured on the cover of this year’s MLB The Show. He reeled in 108,148 votes, outpacing second-place CC Sabathia (89,056) and Miguel Cabrera, Matt Kemp, Bryce Harper, Buster Posey and Ryan Braun.

The individual accolades are a nice touch for McCutchen, who is the lone player among that group not to have tasted some team success. The Pirates, long woeful, appeared to finally be ready to fight their way above .500 this year but had a horrid second-half slide, finishing at 79-83.

McCutchen, though, has been a bright spot. Already the leader in Pittsburgh, the All-Star now has video game honors to carry with him this season as he and the Pirates give it another try.
