Asante Samuel Tells Richard Sherman, Pete Carroll to Eat ‘Humble Pie’ After Loss to Falcons

Asante Samuel may have lost a step or two since his days as an elite defensive back with the Patriots and Eagles, but his trash talk is still in high form.

Samuel and the Falcons’ defense had quite the day Sunday, playing a solid first half against the Seahawks before barely holding off a second-half comeback from Russell Wilson in Atlanta’s 30-28 win. But the almost-loss was the last thing on Samuel’s mind in the postgame locker room scene — he apparently was more in the mood to celebrate via a callout.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that Samuel had some words for Seattle coach Pete Carroll and All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman.

Sherman, who is known to talk some trash of his own, had a rough game against Atlanta’s Matt Ryan-led offense. He and his fellow defensive backs got caught for several long completions, including one bomb to Roddy White where Sherman bit the dust.

Samuel apparently wanted to reinforce who got the upper hand, and it’s not hard to see why he picked Sherman and the ever-confident Carroll.

Still, in a game in which the Falcons came as close to possible to folding before eking out the win, Samuel should take a slice of that humble pie with him before he takes the field again.
