Celtics Fans Should Reconsider Calls to Blow Up Team, With NBA Draft So Full of Risks (Podcast)

Paul PierceWith Rajon Rondo out for the year, what happens next for the Celtics?

That’s the question on everyone’s mind after learning the news of the star point guard’s torn ACL, and one with no easy answer. With Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett still playing at a high level, the C’s could still have a fighting chance this season. Then again, without Rondo, it’s hard to imagine a deep postseason run for this group, considering how the team has looked much of this year.

Blowing up the core of the team to rebuild is certainly an option for Danny Ainge and the Celtics brass to consider — even if it would be such a high-risk, high-reward scenario to play the odds and hope to hit the NBA lottery jackpot.

NESN.com NBA writer Ben Watanabe stopped by the podcast on Monday  to discuss the fallout of Rondo’s injury with NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette. The two also discussed any possible replacement options for the Celtics, whether the team might be able to remake itself without its point guard and much more.
