New York Islanders winger Colin McDonald delivered a dirty hit on Tuesday night, which he received a penalty for. It’s likely that he’s got even more punishment on the way.

The NHL announced Wednesday that McDonald has earned himself a hearing with the league for his hit on Pittsburgh defenseman Ben Lovejoy in the second period of the Islanders’ win over the Penguins. The hit from behind earned McDonald a 5-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct.

McDonald doesn’t have any previous history in terms of dirty hits, and Lovejoy did skate away seemingly unharmed by the hit. However, it’s probably safe to assume that McDonald will get at least a game for the hit, which is clearly from behind on a defenseless player.
