Deryk Engelland, Colton OrrA lot has been said about the quality of play in the early goings of this abbreviated NHL season. One aspect that seems to be in midseason form, however, is the fighting.

There have been plenty of good slobber-knockers so far this season, but arguably none have been better than the bout that occurred Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.

Toronto’s Colton Orr and Pittsburgh’s Deryk Engelland could sense business was about to pick up in the first period when they started to tangle at the blue line. That quickly escalated into an intense scrap, leading one of the TV commentators to exclaim about Pez Dispensers.

Both players proved they were tougher than a $2 steak, as they went for a good couple of minutes. At one point, the linesmen even tried to step in, but that attempt was quickly thwarted when Orr beat Engelland like a government mule with a strong left jab square in the face.

It’s been a busy week for Orr, who took on Buffalo’s John Scott earlier in the week and proceeded to stomp a mud hole and walk it dry.
