Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo debuted new footwear for Sunday’s game against Real Sociedad. The image of his extravagant, new personalized boots were a secret before being leaked by the British press.

His new “tools” use special laces and have the distinct style of CR7. He will use the boots, Nike’s “Mercurial IX,”  from the start of 2013 when Real Madrid faces Real Sociedad in the Santiago Bernabeu.

The numbers 1,9,14,19,27,55,60 are stitched onto the sides. The 1 refers to his first La Liga title. The numbers 9 and 14 represent the nine goals he scored in 14 games for Portugal. The number 19 is the record number of opponents against whom Ronaldo scored. The 27 was his age last year. The numbers 60 and 55 mark the amount of goals he scored and the number of games in which he played in 2012.

Last year, Adidas, Nike’s competition, created special boots for Leo Messi, a golden edition in honor of his third consecutive Golden Ball victory.

Could it finally be the year Ronaldo earns a pair of his own?
