Eden Hazard is old enough to know that two wrongs don’t make a right.

The Chelsea star left the field in disgrace after he was sent off for kicking a teenage ball boy Wednesday. The incident marred Chelsea’s elimination from the Capital One Cup at the feet of Swansea City.

Chelsea was trailing 2-0 (on aggregate) in the 79th minute when things got crazy. When the ball went out of play behind Chelsea’s goal, the ball boy on duty at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium refused to return it quickly.

The teenager went sprawling to the ground, falling on top of the ball and would not get off of it. That’s when Hazard lost his cool. He ran toward the ball boy and tried to get the ball back. When the ball boy refused, Hazard kicked him squarely in the ribs.

It happened in plain sight of the crowd and the referee’s assistant, who alerted official Chris Foy as to what transpired. Foy showed Hazard a red card, banishing the Belgian winger to the dressing room.

Hazard has excelled in his first season in English soccer. The red card, his first in England, will cost him at least three games and blight  his reputation to some extent. To their credit, Hazard and the ball boy apologized and shook hands after the game.
