Lance Armstrong Joins Barry Bonds, Marion Jones on List of Sports’ Tainted Record-Setters (Photos)

Lance ArmstrongLance Armstrong is finally coming clean, but his titles won’t be.

After denying for years that he ever used performance-enhancing drugs, the seven-time Tour de France winner is finally expected to own up to his misdeeds in an interview with Oprah Winfrey airing Thursday night. However, that likely won’t be enough to wash away the grime of the tainted titles Armstrong has been stripped of.

While the 41-year-old cyclist is only the latest and biggest name in sports to fall under a black cloud of controversy, he’s far from the first and certainly won’t be the last.

The history of competitive sports is littered with reminders that some will do whatever it takes to win. Others, while never technically doing anything wrong, will also find their way into controversy from time to time when it comes to unseating some records. As long as there are sports, people will be willing to bend and break the rules to play them — some more egregiously than others.
