The Red Sox officially announced Thursday that they have signed reliever Craig Breslow to a two-year contract with a club option for 2015.
Breslow, who had been eligible for arbitration, made 63 combined appearances between the Diamondbacks and Red Sox last season, and went 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 63 1/3 innings. The left-hander went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 23 appearances after arriving in Boston via a trade with the Diamondbacks just prior to the July 31 trade deadline.
Breslow held opponents to a .206 average (14-for-68), including a .184 mark (7-for-38) against left-handed hitters, with the Red Sox in 2012, and he figures to be the team’s lefty specialist going forward.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but reports have indicated that Breslow will earn $2.325 million in 2013 and $3.825 million in 2014. The club option for 2015 is reportedly worth $4 million.
