Report: Buck Showalter Set to Sign Three-Year Extension With Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles were baseball’s feel-good story in 2012, rising from obscurity and without expectations to become a wild card playoff winner over the Texas Rangers. Many credited manager Buck Showalter for the team’s change in attitude, and it looks like the Orioles are ready to reward him for the team’s success.

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, Showalter — The Sporting News’ winner for American League Manager of the Year — is set to sign a three-year extension with the club that would run through the 2016 season. Showalter currently makes $1.5 million per season, an average salary among major league managers.

According to various reports, Showalter flew from his home in Dallas to meet Baltimore’s management and iron out the details of his contract on Friday. While a deal with the Orioles could be announced next week, the 56-year-old was recently named “Marylander of the Year” by The Baltimore Sun for having “lifted a community’s spirits and restored Baltimore’s pride as a baseball city.”
