Derek Army Looks to Lead Providence to Hockey East Glory After Staying at School Despite Father’s Firing (Video)

Growing up just 20 miles from the Providence College campus, Derek Army always wanted to be a Friar.

But when his father Tim, who had been PC’s head coach, was dismissed by the program after Derek’s freshman season, the 5-foot-11 center had a decision to make. To Army, though, the choice was simple.

Two years later, the junior is the leading scorer (10 goals, eight assists) on a Friars squad that ranks fourth in Hockey East, just two points behind both Boston University and UNH. Providence has not finished above seventh place in the conference since the 2007-08 season, but Army and his teammates represent a fresh wave of Friars looking to buck that trend.

Check out Army’s story in the video above.
