Ryan Kalish and Ryan Sweeney made up an ignominious injury duo in the Red Sox’ outfield last year, with neither player able to be fully healthy and lock down one of the open outfield spots.
This winter, things already look bad for Kalish, who needs shoulder surgery and is expected to miss spring training. The Red Sox responded to that news by reportedly bringing back Sweeney — signing him to a minor league deal — and the veteran outfielder was quick to tweet his thanks to the team. He also promised that he’d avoid dubious injuries this season.
Sweeney ended his playing time with the Red Sox last year with an ill-placed punch, capping what had been a frustrating year for both him and the team with another trip to the disabled list. Now, with a second chance in sight, he says that won’t happen again.
