The Islanders let a good one slip away in 2001 when they traded current Bruins captain Zdeno Chara to the Senators for Alexei Yashin.

The Isles had selected Chara in the third round (56th overall) of the 1996 NHL draft, and he made his NHL debut in the 1997-98 season. In four years with the Islanders, he scored six goals and notched 23 assists and well over 300 PIMs.

He spent the next four years in Ottawa before the Bruins nabbed him in 2006.

Chara turned into an All-Star with the Sens in 2003 and a Stanley Cup and Norris Trophy winner with the Bruins.
