Wednesday, Andrea McDonald, the mother of top 100 football recruit, Alex Collins, refused to sign her son’s letter of intent to the University of Arkansas. On Thursday, another twist was thrown into Collins’ recruitment.
McDonald, who wanted her son to sign with the University of Miami, has now hired an attorney from The Cochran Firm to represent her family during this ordeal, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. The Cochran Firm, founded by the late Johnnie Cochran Jr., is a familiar name in the sports world. Cochran represented O.J. Simpson in his infamous 1995 murder trial.
“Alex’s family has been overwhelmed with media inquiries regarding their impending decision,” said attorney Jack Paris in a news release Thursday. “They want to make a clean choice that is free of any outside influences. This is a very tough decision and they are weighing their options very carefully. In the meantime, they have requested The Cochran Firm’s assistance in clearing up any false or inaccurate statements in the press.”
Collins’ has reiterated that he plans on signing with Arkansas. However, NCAA rules state that any recruit under 21 needs a signature from a parent/guardian.
McDonald wants her son to be a Hurricane, so he can be closer to his Plantation, Fla., home. In the meantime one of the nation’s top running backs remains unsigned until this is resolved.
