Is Dustin Pedroia finally on Twitter? That’s the scuttlebutt on Tuesday morning.

According to a tweet by Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks, the Laser Show is in fact finally on board with the social media network — but not without some controversy.

Reliever Andrew Bailey and outfielder Daniel Nava also joined in, welcoming the @15LaserShow account to the Twitterverse, but that’s just about when the wheels started to fall off the bandwagon of Internet fun.

The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham reported early this morning that the account was a fake, but then backtracked on that statement after a couple of conversations with Pedroia. In one instance, the second baseman explained that the account was a fake; later, he claimed it was in fact him.

For what it’s worth, Major League Baseball’s official Twitter feed welcomed Pedroia to Twitter and encouraged fans to follow him, but it’s unclear if that feed confirmed anything with the Red Sox. For now, the mysterious account’s 17,000-plus followers will have to wait and see what happens next.
