Floyd Mayweather Jr. is back in the ring, but at least one thing will be different this time around. In his first fight since serving a two-month jail term, Mayweather will be fighting on Showtime, not HBO.
Mayweather will be fighting Robert Guerrero on May 4, the boxing star announced Tuesday, and he has signed a new deal with CBS’ Showtime to broadcast that fight and more. The new deal could include as many as six fights over 30 months, according to The Associated Press.
Mayweather (43-0 with 26 knockouts) will likely fight Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. Mayweather, 36, last fought May 5 of last year, when he beat Miguel Cotto.
In jail for two months last summer, Mayweather had his sentence cut short after complaints that the jail conditions were hurting Mayweather’s competitive edge and ability to return to fighting.
