Joe Flacco‘s new contract couldn’t come at a better time.
The 28-year-old quarterback just led the Ravens to a Super Bowl title, won the Super Bowl MVP and put up one of the single best postseason performances in NFL history. Now, he wants to be properly compensated for his achievements, as he deserves to be. But the type of money he’s looking for might be a little lofty.
Flacco’s agent Joe Linta, in a recent interview with CNBC, said that the emerging superstar believes he should be the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.
“When you do a contract of this magnitude, you look at what is the player’s body of work presently,” Linta said in the interview. “And what are the expectations going forward over the next four, five or six years.
“Joe wins on both accounts.”
While Flacco surely wants to be grouped in with Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and other such “elite” — however relevant or irrelevant that term is — quarterbacks, which he proved he should this postseason, it turns out he may also have some ulterior motives behind the decision.
“He really disdains selling himself for these endorsements,” Linta said. “He just doesn’t really want to do it. … He’s a normal person whose hit fame and fortune.”
Given some of his awful acting in ads down in Baltimore — like this one for Pizza Hut and this one for another local restaurant — it’s no wonder that Flacco doesn’t like doing endorsements.
So, if protecting the newly crowned Super Bowl MVP on the field isn’t enough, at least they know they’ll be keeping him comfortable off it, too.
