Kate Upton, Bar Refaeli, Tyra Banks Highlight History of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

It’s a repeat for Kate Upton.

The 20-year-old model is gracing the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue for the second consecutive year. The location for the 2013 cover shot was a bit different than the previous year, though — Upton traded Australia for Antarctica this time.

This is also a milestone for the issue itself, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The annual edition started in 1964 when Babette March was the inaugural cover girl. From there, the issue has continued to grow in popularity. In the past, models and celebrities such as Trya Banks, Beyonce, Bar Refaeli, Christie Brinkley and Ella Macpherson have been featured on the cover.

Athletes over the years, such as Danica Patrick, Alex Morgan and Maria Sharapova, have also been included. In 2013, hurdler Michelle Jenneke, surfer Alana Blanchard and field hockey stars Ellen Hoog and Eva de Goede are athletes who will be making appearances.
