Bobby ValentineBobby Valentine wasn’t out of a job for long — but he’s not back in baseball just yet.

The former Red Sox manager will be handling all sports in his new gig, as the Connecticut Post’s William S. Paxton  reports that Valentine has now agreed to become the next athletics director at Sacred Heart University. He will be taking over that position from Don Cook, who is retiring July 1.

“An intriguing opportunity has been presented to me and it’s something I really feel I can enjoy doing and I feel could be mutually beneficial,” Valentine said to the Post on Thursday night.

The Fairfield, Conn., school participates in Division I athletics, and fields 31 varsity teams. Valentine was fired as the Red Sox manager last season after leading the team to a 69-93 record and a last-place finish in the American League East.
